Breastfeeding etiquette for guys

When it’s your own partner things are so much on an issue, i presume as you have had a baby with him that he has seen your boobies at some time!! Well i suppose you never can be too sure (one of my friends is sure her grandparents never saw each other in the buff…but i digress! ) but it’s more of when your male family members and friends come around and you are breastfeeding your baby, what is the etiquette for guys? A lot of men can’t cope very well with the situation, i suppose they don;t really want to see their friends/ daughters boobies so you can’t really blame them; but this doesn’t mean they have to go off the deep end and get all funny about things!

My friends father in law wouldn;t even come in the house when she was breastfeeding- i mean talk about going over the top!

I found a great little article about etiquette for guys involving breastfeeding , check it out :

nursing clothing for funky mums

Seriously it’s hard trying to find funky breastfeeding clothing that you aren’t aware all the time the only reason you are wearing it is that it’s practical…would be nice to find nursing clothes that you actually like. Well hopefully Mama Feelsgood can help you there 🙂

At the moment we have concentrated on nursing T-shirts, we carry funky graphic print breastfeeding tees in both long and short sleeve versions and we also stock plain nursing T-shirts which are super versitile and can be thrown on with your funky pair of jeans and you’ll comfortable whilst retaining your own sense of style.

Here’s our short sleeve breastfeeding Owl T-shirt in black :

OK so you;re thinking what makes this shirt a nursing top? Yeah it looks so “normal” you can’t tell it actually has a functional aspect to it (thats one thing our ladies say to us all the time is that it just looks like a regular top and friends have been surprised when they see it has the capabilities to keep you covered whilst you nurse your child), the top is made so it has 2 layers. The top layer is just like a regular shirt and when you want to nurse you life the top layer up and this exposes the under layer which has a feeding opening to either side (so you can choose to feed either side) so the top covers your post baby tummy whilst the top layer can help cover your chest and give your baby something to snuggle into. Also because the tops are 95% cotton it enables and extra spills on the underlayer to soak in and help prevent big milk marks all over your shirt!

Treat yourself to something nice, having a baby is SO exciting but sometimes mum is forgotten and you shouldn;t be!

So hard finding babies names….. how did you find your babies name?

OK so i am expecting a baby this march and have just started thinking about names . In general i think there are a lot of boys names that i really like and my husband and i have short listed a few that we both like but girls names are mega difficult i find to choose from. I feel a bit bad because one just hasn’t sprung to mind, but with our surname being Jeans it’s got to be the right name; i love the name James but James Jeans just doesn’t sound right!

How did you choose your babies name? Any good tips you could share to find one? Sometimes at the end of TV programmes i check out the people who worked on the show just to get a list of names.

Here’s some lists of names i’ve found already:

Popular names from the 1950’s USA

Girls names:

More girls names:

Boys names:

more boys names

Seems crazy that there can literally be 100’s of names and yet 1 doesn’t jump out. Don;t know i would do if o was expecting twins!!

Visitors after having your baby ?

This can be a sensitive subject because of course people will be happy for you when your baby finally arrives and will want to share things with you, but straight after you’ve given birth can be a very personal time for you and your husband and other children which you might well want to be on your own……. so how do people feel about seeing visitors after having a baby and how soon is too soon?

I’ve heard stories of mothers in law of phoning the hospital for updates and basically camping outside the delivery suite waiting to swoop in and be the first to see their new grandchild, whilst some people have said they have been a little offended by people not coming to visit! So i suppose each of us is very different in what we find acceptable. Personally i’m more of a give me my own space kinda person, if labour is anything like my first child then at least give me a day to get over it! I can’t say i was too organised in my apparel after having my daughter and hadn’t got the hang of breasfeeding at all so the thought of flashing my post baby body at people didn’t fill me with enthusiasm !! I mean it’s a major life change let me have some time for it to sink in.

Also it’s the please don;t wake the baby, especially first time around i didn’t have a clue about how to deal with a screaming baby so when she did get to sleep it counted my blessings until there was a knock at the door and they person wanted to pick them up…arrhhh

BLimey sounds all very horrible, and i didn;t mean to be at all . I found a great blog which brings this subject up, have a read and see what you think 🙂

Slimming world – yes you can go whilst pregnant

This is something i never knew, that if you want to loose some pounds during pregnancy (and please ladies it is so common to put weight on in pregnancy and i’m only taking about loosing weight if you really need to here) you can do the slimming world programme whilst pregnant.

I myself am coming up to being 20 weeks pregnant and i have to say when i had my booking in appointment with the midwife at 8 weeks i was in total shock of my weight. My BMI is on the wrong side of the line and i was embarrassed and upset at the same time. My midwife was so cool about things and instructed me not to stare myself (hey no worries there i assured her!) as obviously your baby wants all the goodness out of your diet, but at the end of the day your baby really doesn’t need all the cakes and the doughnuts!! So ok it’s taken me another 12 weeks to come to terms with things but last night i went to my first slimming world class.

They were so nice about everything, and gave me information on doing the slimming world programme whilst pregnant and you can also do it while you breastfeed too. It’s super important whilst you are pregnant and breastfeeding not to cut out the calcium in your diet so they do adapt the plan to take this into consideration.

So ladies of you NEED to loose weight whilst pregnant slimming world is an option, and it makes a big difference actually doing something about your problem rather than pretending it doesn’t exist.

Celebrity breastfeeding

Nicole Kidman’s view on breastfeeding

Nice to know Hollywood stars are “Normal” in some ways too…well apart from being uber rich ha ha.

Nicole Kidman has done an article for a magazine in the states about her pregnancy and breastfeeding , take a look:

Nicole Kidman has always been tall with a svelte figure so she became pregnant with her daughter Sunday Rose, she grew in more ways than one.

In the issue of Ladies Home Journal, Nicole talks about how pregnancy made her breasts “normal size,” being in love and how her career is taking a backseat to family life.

Here are some highlights from the interview:

Nicole on breastfeeding: “They’re not very big, my boobs, so they just became normal size. I loved it! I felt very Woman. When you’ve had a slightly androgynous body your whole life, having breasts is a nice feeling.”

Nicole on being a private person: “I would never write a memoir. There are things that happen behind closed doors, and that’s where they belong. I’m not secretive. I’m protective.”

Nicole on being in love: “I love being in love. I believe in the power of love, the way it can heal. The more you keep choosing it—because there are times when you can choose to be angry at the person or to love him—the more it nourishes a family.”

Nicole on her career taking a backseat: “There are certain limitations to my career because I’m based here. And that’s cool. Keith has enormous ambitions, which I support. His tours and albums are much bigger than what I’m doing right now.”

Nicole on refusing to sing in front of her husband: Most mornings Urban plays the piano for her and Sunday. “I hum a little. When your husband’s a huge singer, the last thing you do is sing with him.”

Nicole on her outlook for the future: “Sunday’s third word was ‘wow,’ and I say that word a lot. I hope when I’m 80 I’ll still be saying it. I’ve been given extraordinary opportunities, with huge dreams fulfilled. I’m 42 and my eyes ar

breastfeeding help

The breastfeeding Feedgood factor

We came across this breastfeeding advice site, aimed at people in Scotland but alot of the information is general about breastfeeding and as it has such a funky name : Breastfeeding The Feedgood factor we thought you might like to check it out.

The website runs through the benefits of breastfeeding your baby, along with how you can help support breastfeeding ie as a friend or husband / relative etc.  Also there are some personal stories on there from varing points of view ie mums, dads etc. Also the national breastfeeding helpline number is on there 0300 100 0212 (not sure if this is just for Scotland or a UK one ?) so if you have ANY questions about breastfeeding then give them a ring and they are the experts to help you out. I think with breastfeeding it is a skill that both you and your baby have to learn and along with the the other factors involved in having and raising a baby it’s not easy, and sometimes you might feel you have to give up breastfeeding when you don;t really want to , especially  if there is no one you can talk to about things. So the telephone helpline can be a really useful thing, i’m sure they have heard every question you could possible think of to do with breastfeeding and being at the end of the phone is sometimes better then being in person, gives you a bit more ammoninity (spelling?)

Take care guys, Liz

Breastfeeding Tops

Metropolis nursing tops totally out of this world!

Introducing our wicked Metropolis nursing tops , something totally unusual and funky to spice up your breastfeeding wardrobe.

This breastfeeding top comes in both dark and light grey in long sleeves  and also available in Dark Grey short sleeve nursing top.

Like our Ray gun nursing tops (which by the way are on special this week) the Metropolis nursing top is kinda retro comic book style. I totally love this breastfeeding shirt as it kinda shows women are strong and we might not be physically the strongest but emotionally and with everything we go through (hey being pregnant and giving birth is not an easy task) shows we are strong and can do anything we out our minds to…..well within reason, we can’t grow beards or pee standing up but you get my drift!! ha ha.

Mama FeelsGood is my baby and i really do love my nursing shirts, i was talking to a lovely customer yesterday and i think ended up giving her nearly my life story (truly i am sorry ha ha) and it hit me even more how much i totally adore just giving new mums something different to wear and providing you guys with a choice. I know everyone has different taste in clothes etc but it’s so nice to know some ladies really love and appreciate what i’, trying to do here, and it;s so cool when people just “get ” you 🙂

Make sure you have a good Friday the 13th 🙂
