I absolutely love instagram, i can literally be on it for hours so i have to discipline myself with it. I can find SO many funky brands and if i were rich i would treat you all them ! One brand that i’ve come to love and Freshly Picked
They make the cutest little moccasins and you know when something just looks really great quality and you’ve just got to get some; sadly for me i’ve discovered Freshly picked a little too late as my youngest daughter is 3 and beyond the soft show stage but darn it i wish i had heard of them sooner.
They recently appeared on the USA version of Dragons Den called Fish Tank, the owner Susan Petersen was totally killer on the show, in a totally non aggressive way wouldn’t take any crap from the guys on the panel and you could see she was totally into her brand and it was far more than a company to her, like me and MFG it is a major part of her life. She explained how she started the company off because she thought she could do better than what was out there , here’s a clip from her website
Susan Petersen started making baby moccasins in 2009 after becoming frustrated by the lack of well-designed baby shoes. Using her second child, Gus, as a mocc-tester, and a bag of scrap leather she picked up at a yard sale, she began experimenting with designs. Working at her kitchen table, on a shoestring budget, Susan persisted through some disastrous attempts until she had created a pair of moccasins that not only looked adorable on Gus’ chubby little feet, but stayed on his feet as well.
Since then the moccasins have gone through about six design changes. Each change has perfected the look and the fit of the soft-soled shoe. The moccasins you purchase today are durable, well designed, and most importantly: stay on your child’s foot.
Money was tight at the time Susan started and in order to earn money to start her business she got resourceful. Her brother owns a window installation business and in the summer of 2009 she convinced him to let her keep the old windows that he was removing from the houses. She spent a whole summer banging the glass out of the windows because they were encased in aluminum frames. At the end of the summer she took the aluminum window frames to the scrap yard and recycled them to get money. She made $200 dollars and with that literal sweat equity, she started her business.
Each pair of moccasins, whether being shipped to the rich and famous (or at least their kids), or shipped across town, are made with care, perfection and a love for the little feet they are intended for. We sincerely hope you enjoy our product! “
When someone starts a company from such a good place and with such determination i think to myself you just know their product is going to be great. I admit i haven’t bought a pair of their moccasins myself and at $60 per pair with shipping to the UK it’s going to make them expensive but they rock so much more than our high street ones don’t you think? Plus knowing you are helping the little stores and not the big wigs makes me feel good!
If there are any UK stockists of these let me know, they would make a great present.
